The King Edward VII School 1st XI continued their remarkable run on Wednesday when they won the Gauteng regional final of the Standard Bank 20/20 Challenge Competition. This remarkable team, who under new coach Ryan Cook has lost just one match this year were in imperious form in this encounter. The final between St John's College and KES was played at the neutral venue of St David's College. St John's batted first and got to 60 off the first 10 overs, but lost wickets regularly throughout the innings causing them to slump to a total of 101 for 9.
In reply KES were calm and collected in their reply. Quentin de Kock was caught on the boundary with the score on 36, but captain Keaton Jennings and opening batsman Paul de Chaud knocked off the rest of the runs with a minimum of fuss. KES won with 4 overs to spare.
KES will now face the winners of the North-West region, and victory in that game will see them through to the national finals which will take place during the school holidays.
